Dear Friends,
From a beaver to an otter, from a dragon to a snail, from deer to rabbits and even to an adorable Canadian geese family, I have encountered many enchanting animals this past few months.
Most of them I saw as magnificent living creatures in their natural habitats, and some I came into contact with as amazing pieces of art like the dragon and the snail at the Butchart Gardens.
2024 is the Year of the Wood Dragon, according to the Chinese calendar. In Chinese culture, the Dragon holds a significant place as an auspicious and extraordinary creature, unparalleled in talent and excellence. It symbolizes power, nobility, honour, luck and success.
Besides the dragon, another animal has captured my particular attention this spring.
The beaver.
This spring was the first time I saw a beaver in the wild, and I was absolutely fascinated by the experience.
Since the encounter, I have learned that the beaver was the first universally popular symbol of Canada, even before the maple leaf. It became an official symbol of Canada on March 24, 1975, when the National Symbol of Canada Act received royal assent. This law aimed to showcase the beaver (castor canadensis) as one of the symbols of Canadian sovereignty.
All animals have their unique characteristics and traits, and many times they send us messages when they appear. When an animal shows up multiple times in a short period of time, or in a significant way, I like to look for its meaning. I often refer to the book by Steven D. Farmer, PhD., Animal Spirit Guides.
